Self-attitude and features of self-presentation of teenagers in social networks
The article analyzes the results of a study of the features of the relationship between self-esteem and self-presentation in social networks of the Russian segment among schoolchildren aged 12-17. The material for the analysis was the results of a survey of 53 Moscow schoolchildren (13 boys and 40 girls) using the methodology for studying self-esteem by V.V. Stolin and S.R. Panteleev, the questionnaire of self-presentation in a social network by M. Mikhikyan adapted by D.S. Kornienko, N.A. Rudnova, E.A. Gorbushina and F.V. Derish, as well as the author’s questionnaire aimed at clarifying the individual characteristics of adolescent behavior in social networks. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that adolescents are characterized by an inflated global self-esteem, self-interest, autosympathy and self-acceptance. The analysis showed that the more positive the attitude of teenagers towards themselves, the more they demonstrate a realistic self-image and to a lesser extent – a false self-image. According to the authors of the article, the higher the self-acceptance of teenagers, the more they strive to show their real personality in the social network, and the false self-presentation of teenagers is associated with their low self-esteem, self-respect, interest in themselves, as well as insecurity and self-misunderstanding. Taking into account the patterns of connection between the characteristics of self-attitude and self-presentation in social networks can help clarify the trajectory of a teenager’s personal growth, psychologically competent disclosure of his communicative potential, and mastering the skills of resolving complex communicative situations under the negative influence of the digital environment.
